Tips for booking the perfect hotel in Leh for you

Leh is the gateway to Little Tibet. A good hotel in Leh will serve as a base camp for exploring the monasteries and the Indus Valley.

From Leh you can make many of the most attractive excursions in Ladakh. Stay in a nice hotel in Leh and enjoy the lunar landscapes and high mountain culture on your trip to India.

Where to stay in Leh

The capital of Ladakh has a wide range of accommodation. It is a central place in the valley, since from Leh you can make several excursions in one day. Compared to northern Indian cities, the prices are good, but keep in mind that you will not find many of the comforts and small indulgences of Indian hospitality.

Also, I recommend that you increase your tolerance level for minor imperfections. The tourist season in Leh is very short and does not give enough benefits to have the properties in an impeccable condition.

Budget hotels and hostels in Leh

  • Lahchik Guest House. This budget guesthouse is on Changspa Road very close to my favorite places for breakfast and dinner under the stars (Bon Apettit). The rooms are adequate with private bathrooms. It is a great option for cheap accommodation if you are on a budget and want to live Ladakhi style.
  • New Moon Guest House. The good thing about traveling to Ladakh is the charming guest houses in Leh. They have very affordable prices and that typical character of Ladakhi architecture. New Moon Guest House is located in the upper part of the city, behind the Leh Palace.
  • Hostel LaVie Leh. Here you have the hostel formula with shared rooms and private rooms. It is a chain with presence in several Indian cities and that maintains the facilities in good condition. However, in Leh there are other homestay options with more charm and at approximately the same price.

Charming hotels in Leh

As I said before, the most common format you will find is the guesthouse. There are hotels in Leh of intermediate category, but in general, they have worse ratings than the B&B formulas.

  • Siala Guest House. For a similar price, but with more familiar services and treatment, you have the Siala Guest House. It is also in this area of Leh that goes from the center to the Peace Pagoda. The garden and the location are two of its strong points. In Leh it is important to be away from the noise of some of the main roads because life starts very early in the morning.
  • Royal Ladakh. If you prefer the comforts and attention of a Ladakh-style hotel, Royal Ladakh is on the road between the city and the Peace Pagoda. The center of Leh is a stone’s throw away. This is the hotel where I usually stay when I go for work.
  • The Grand Dragon. The best luxury hotel in Leh. This property is in the lower part of the city, well-connected to the airport and a 10-minute walk from the old city. This hotel is characterized by a scrupulous policy of sustainability. The garden and mountain views will fascinate you.
  • The Indus River Camp. Do you want to be in the wilderness and close to Leh? This camp offers you the opportunity of glamping in Ladakh on the very banks of the Indus River. With its turquoise waters and desert landscape, this is an ideal option for those who prefer to get into the nature of Ladakh without compromising on comfort.
